Now this is my first windows 8.1 computer, and my first Asus as well. Yes, it is made of aluminum-like plastic. But I can hardly consider that a complaint. For a computer its size, its pretty light, and feels sturdy enough. This laptop is fast, holds charge pretty well, and is visually appealing. Read the specs, it packs a wallop of features. I use it for business purposes, and recreation while traveling.
I rarely use the built in speakers, but no one should expect good bass (which is the common problem) from speakers this size. I have a Creative D100 to use as portable speakers.
The one real complaint I can summon is that doesn't have the best screen resolution. Its not bad either, but I'm used to better. That could be a problem if you are into photography editing. It also should have been antiglare, but then again I think that wouldn't feel nice on a touchscreen.
Oh, andI could do without the Asus bloatware though. None of it is useful to me.
I was going to give it 4/5 because of that, but the DVD drive is a very rare feature in computers this size.
I needed a portable computer with an SD card, slot, camera, bluetooth, and DVD Drive. This baby has all I asked for. Nice looks. Light. feature packed and out performs most. I definitely love this laptop.

It's 2017 and after only 4 years of relatively light and stationary use, this computer has failed me. It's dust magnet, the keys stick, and the biggest issue is that the audio jack has stopped working for no reason. I want to reiterate that i used this lightly - no moving, banging, and only used indoors. I'm disappointed that it hasn't held up. The ram also wasn't enough - when all i did was have itunes and a browser open, it would freeze. Next time I'll go more powerful.
I'll be honest this laptop could be a lot better. It's fast, but could be faster for the price. The keyboard isn't backlit but it should be at this price and the screens colors are dull; also the brightness is mediocre at best. I keep trying to turn up the brightness thinking it's down when it is all the way up. Then there is this stupid asus help button next to the backspace button that I constantly hit. It's super aggravating! To top it all off, not sure if it's a hardware issue or what but the HDMI stopped working. It's not my cord or tv because I tested it on my now six year old sony vaio and it works fine. I want to return but at this point I just don't think I am going to find a decent sized touchscreen asus or lenovo laptop an with i7 core in it. Definitely disappointed. Wish vaio didn't sell it's name.
Starting off with the "negatives" so far. I have owned this laptop for a mere 11 hours yet I am satisfied. I know the screen is just average but I knew what I was buying so not complaint there. The only thing that has been bothering me so far is the spacebar. I am not sure if it is defective or if it is built this way but there are times when the key does not register me pushing down. I suppose I will just have to get used to it.
I have played 2 games on it so far, Minecraft and Counter Strike: GO. I played both on the highest settings possible with 45+FPS, never dipping below. I am more than satisfied. It took some playing around with the NVIDIA control panel to switch from integrated graphics but it is just a google search away.
I have not felt any slow moments or felt as if the laptop was being overwhelmed by my numerous tabs and applications. The start up time is about 20-30 seconds which is just fine with me (SSD coming soon, possibly just a mSATA SSD for bootup). Meanwhile, the charger is pretty freaking cool.
The pictures online do not justify how beautiful this machine actually is. The screen size will turn off some people but because of how large the laptop has to be but it is perfect in my opinion. I will have to find a bag that can accomodate this the portability was never a serious issue (I use my iPad/paper for the ridiculously super tiny desks they have in some lecture halls at my university). As time goes on I will update this review but so far so good.
I've got it for about 2 weeks and even though it has some minor issues (mainly the bloatwares which can be *quite* easily uninstalled), overall it works great. Windows 8 is of course a pain, but Classic Shell got me through it. Touchscreen is intuitive and very helpful when I'm too lazy to reach for the mouse. Speaker sounds good enough for an average music listener like me; and webcam is high quality. Touchpad is okay, nothing spectacular but I'm not using it much anyway so that's not a big problem. Unlike some other reviews I have no problem with the keyboard at all, typing feels really comfortable. 1TB storage and the optical disk drive are great bonus. One thing you should notice is that there is only 1 jack for both the headphone and the mic so choose your headphone accordingly. Also, it's a little bit heavy to carry around. And under sunlight the screen glare is so strong it's almost blinding. But overall for college this laptop is all you need (and more).
I have an older ASUS laptop and this one is certainly an improvement in some ways. I have had the laptop for a little over a month now. I bought it online without testing it/seeing it first. First, it is much faster upon start up and waking back up from "sleep." It also has more storage, which is nice.
The reason I am giving this computer only 2 stars is the touchpad is extremely sensitive and keeps randomly zooming in and out. Maybe it's user error and there's a way to keep it from doing that, but I haven't figured that out yet. It's to the point where I am now using a mouse and hate using the computer unless I'm at a desk or table which partially negates the purpose of having a laptop. Ironically, I also find the touchpad less responsive at the same time! I am generally very frustrated with this computer right now and regret buying it before testing it out first. If I find a way to fix the issues with the touchpad, I will post a revision.

The bad: It's a little slow for the specs and it's the biggest pain to open up. You can't even remove the battery without getting your hands dirty. The overall design seems inspired by Mac books, which is awful if you have even vague intentions of doing your own maintenance. Either they're hoping to fuel the economy by having people send their laptops out/buy new ones, or they feel people are truly concerned with the aesthetics of the bottom of their machines. Older machines I have feature easy access slots to everything: memory, pop out battery, etc. and I was disappointed this didn't. It also isn't very durable. My friend accidentally nudged my laptop with his and it left the slightest nick and his unharmed. End rant.
The good: One of the better deals you're going to get for a touchscreen laptop. Steve jobs might have said vertical touchscreens are evil, but I definitely (and comfortably) find myself putting it to use. Plus something comparable to this with a detachable screen can get expensive. If you're a casual user, you shouldn't have too many issues. I usually have roughly 20+ tabs open and about four other low-mid intensity programs running at all times and it's practically inaudible.I don't really like windows 8, but you can easy customize it to be like a nice 7 or XP. No issues with the keyboard.
At the time that I purchase this product I was looking for something that I was able to afford but also that it helps me with my collegue and gaming and this products works perfectly. This is a really good laptop, great touch and I highly recommend it
Bought this for me father in law who needed a new machine for his everyday use. Casual, web browsing, email, facebook, etc. Not a gaming rig by any means, but for someone who isn't planning on using it for anything resource intensive, this system was great for the price. Solid construction, good battery life, and a very responsive touch screen. Bloatware isn't terrible, so if you know anything about windows, you can pretty quickly go through and uninstall the things that aren't needed. Screen resolution was good, and weight of the laptop feels light for a laptop of this size. Would recommend for non power users.
after opening this laptop i was impressed with the build quality it look great for the money. after powering on i tried to do system updates and windows 8 would not update. tried over and over. after re formatting and re installing my own copy of windows 8.1with my own product key i tried to do updates and still wouldn't update. laptop runs very very slow for the system spec i was not impressed with it at all. mind you it didn't have any updates so that could have been the problem but it was slower than my old core 2 duo machine. track pad had a funny feeling thats hard to explain but not pleasing. i would recomend not buying this laptop iv done allot of reading since and found out the vivobook is just a troublesome pc
I would recommend this. Thought long and hard before purchasing this laptop, read and reread all the reviews and decided I would buy it. I love this laptop, very lightweight, cool to the touch after being on the charger for a while. Chicklet keyboard is great, love windows 8 but have to get use to it on the laptop. I have no problems so far with this laptop.
ASUS is a great brand.Have used a variety of their products for years.I love everything about this but the wireless card.It constantly drops the signal, causing me to lose emails, downloads and other web based information. I've tried about 12 different wireless networks too.Always the same. I'll be surprised if this actually posts the first time without copying the paragraph, then logging back in and posting it. I've only had this for about 70 days.I expected better
DONT BUY!! I have had the computer for 6 months and the Keyboard is lifting up so you cant hit the keys, I bought another keyboard just to use the computer. The mouse pad is so sensitive that if you even just brush it, the mouse will click somewhere else. I have not used the actual attached keyboard and mouse for 4 months because the keyboard lifted up. When I try to type I always brush the mouse pad and all the windows 8 screen start popping up or I am clicking into a different window, you cannot deactivate the mouse pad to only allow clicking the right and left mouse buttons. I WISH I COULD RETURN IT! I would suggest not buying this computer unless you plan to only use the touch screen or plan to connect a mouse and keyboard to it at all times.
My son wanted a laptop with windows 8 which I feel is a better experience with a touch screen. The I5 processor is very fast.Start-up time is fabulous and the computer arrived in almost perfect condition.Things i don't like about the laptop is the sound (it's a little tinny) and I can't get used to the keyboard as it just doesn't feel right. Overall I am very satisfied.Saved a ton of money and got exactly what we wanted.
By our suggestions above, we hope that you can found Asus Windows 8 Laptop 2013 for you. Please don't forget to share your experience by comment in this post. Thank you!
